National External Diploma Program®

The National External Diploma Program is a way for students over 18 to earn an adult high school diploma. NEDP clients work independently online, on their own schedules, to show their knowledge by completing assignments in 10 competency areas instead of taking timed tests. The NEDP is a great option for individuals with test anxiety or learning disabilities that make timed testing difficult, non-native speakers, and anyone interested in entering the military, where a high school diploma is preferred over a GED credential. An excellent candidate is someone who works well independently, has reasonable computer abilities, and has academic skills in reading and math at the 9th-grade level. Region 5 provides clients with academic instruction and designates a staff member to assess the client's work and provide essential feedback as needed.

Send us your contact information on the "Contact Us / Register For Class" page for more information to see if this program is a good fit for you.

Wondering if you're a good fit for the NEDP Program? Look at the requirements below. If you can check each one, you are ready to begin!

__I understand that I must pass an in-person assessment in Reading, Math, and Writing in order to begin the NEDP Program. If I do not pass my first attempts, I understand that I will be given resources to study and allowed to retest.

__I understand that I need regular access to a computer and the internet to complete this program.

__I understand to earn an adult high school diploma that I must complete all competencies to 100% accuracy in each areas of the NEDP curriculum. I will have opportunities to resubmit any missed information until it's correct.

__I understand that I will be assigned an Assessor/Advisor who will check-in with me as I complete competencies, and that I will be required to meet with her, either virtually or in person, on a regular, consistent basis.

__I understand that 3 no shows without a call or communication with my Assessor/Advisor may terminate me from the program.

__I understand that if I'm not working for 6 weeks or more without prior permission from Region 5 staff, my NEDP account may be deactivated.

__I understand that my Assessor/Advisor is not allowed to teach me. She can only guide me to resources to research or refine my learning. If I need help, I can join an adult basic education class or use the free online resources provided to me.
